Flower Mound real estate is located in Denton County, Texas, with easy access to Dallas and Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, the city of Flower Mound maintains a small-town feel.  The name comes from a large mound located in the southern portion of the city.  Though surrounded by commercial and residential development, the mound, believed to be a Native American burial ground, privately owned so as to protect it from further development.  The city is home to the headquarters of Time Warner Cable’s South/Southwest Division, and employees over 1,400 people and provides services to over 530,000.

History of Flower Mound

European settlement in the Flower Mound area is reported as early as the 1840′s.  Early settlers such as Andrew Morris and David Kirkpatrick are still memorialized with street names in the city.  The town area remained sparsely populated for many decades after this initial settlement.  Not until 1961 was the town Incorporated to avoid annexation by the city of Irving.  The towns second mayor, William Wilkerson, super-charged the incorporation effort, which inturn improved the water supply and phone service of the town.

In 1999, the town adopted the SMART growth “Strategically Managed And Responsible Town Growth” management plan, a smart growth initiative to manage both the rate and character of development in the community, however, Flower Mound’s population continues to rise.  The town also encourages conservation development projects to protect and preserve existing open space, vistas and natural habitats while allowing for controlled growth.  The goal is environmentally sensitive urban development and mitigation of the ill-effects of urban sprawl.

Education in Flower Mound

The Flower Mound school system is mostly served by the Lewisville Independent School District.  Other parts of Flower Mound are located in the Denton Independent School District, and Northwest Independent School District.   The city is home to two high schools, Edward S. Marcus High School and the newer Flower Mound High School, both part of the Lewisville district.

The Park Services Division maintains approximately 544.7 acres of parkland.  This includes more than 30 miles of multi purpose trails that link together parks, neighborhoods, schools, and businesses and 3.5 miles of equestrian trails.  Many of the parks in our neighborhoods provide a variety of  ball fields, ball courts, picnic shelters, park benches, grills and playgrounds.  Residents like the many tennis courts, softball fields for adult baseball games.  Flower Mound golf communities are popular as well.
